How to Record Demo in Counter Strike Source

Counter Strike is a fast paced first person shooter. It is a multiplayer, online only game. Counter Strike Source is an updated version of Counter Strike. Source features an updated graphics engine and much easier demo recording. A demo is a real time recording of gameplay. Demos can be recorded while inside the game and can be played back by anyone using Counter Strike Source.

  1. Start Counter Strike Source. Go to the "Options" menu. Select "Keyboard" and set the "Team Change" key. By default, this is M.
  2. Click the "Advanced" button while in the keyboard menu. Place a check next to "Enable Developer Console."
  3. Enter the game you want to record. Select "Spectator mode."
  4. Press the tilde key (~). This will open up the console menu.
  5. Type in "record <demoname>" without the quotes. Where it says demoname, enter the name you want for the saved recording. Press "Enter."
  6. Stop the recording by typing "stop" without the quotes, into the console.
